Number of People Who Have Vaped Doubles

Vapers who have begun the process of quitting tobacco altogether with the use of vaping products are now in good company.
Recent statistics, which have been released by a team of researchers from Imperial London College, has shown that the amount of vapers within the United Kingdom has grown to 15.5 percent, up from 8.9 percent during the years of 2012 and 2014. Further statistics show an increase from 7.2 percent to 11.6 percent within the same time frame. Both of these figures were published along with other findings in the medical journal Tobacco Control.
The BT reports that researchers collected data from over 53,000 people in the European Union alone to compile the statistics for the findings. Another interesting piece of information that was found in the findings was that France had the highest number of people who vaped while Portugal had the lowest. This is in keeping with what researchers know about the smoking habits of both countries.
The findings in the study are conclusive in showing that vaping is gaining steam as a socially acceptable way to kick a smoking habit. This is true even with all the headwind the industry has been getting from misinformation campaigns and newly installed and pending regulations both in the EU and here in America.
Now, with data showing that the number of people who vape has doubled, researchers and scientists are calling for more comprehensive studies on the long-term effects of vaping. In fact, as the number of vapers doubled, so too has the amount of people in the EU who think vaping is dangerous — the numbers have jumped from 27 percent to 51 percent since 2012.
Dr. Filippos Filippidis, the lead author of the study and who teaches at the School of Public Health at Imperial London College, stated that “There is debate about the risks and benefits associated with e-cigarettes. For instance, we don’t know whether we may start to see diseases emerge in 10-20 years’ time associated with some of the ingredients.”
So while many studies are giving momentum to the vaping cause, others are claiming long-term research is needed to see the full effects of this new habit, which has yet to celebrate a decade in the public marketplace. Many vaping advocates agree with the demand for more research, welcoming researchers to study — and accept — vaping as a viable way to quit smoking traditional cigarettes.
